SFFL offers three levels of play.  The structure of the league is very similar to a high school structure.  Micro, JV and Varsity divisions are offered.

  • The Micro division is open to players ages 5,6 and 7.  NOTE: Five year old players MUST turn 6 by 12/31 of the current football season. This division stresses basic fundamentals of football with the goal of preparing the players for the next level of play and less on wins and losses.
  • The JV division is open to players 8-10 and is broken into two levels.  Players aged 8-9 will participate in the Junior JV game.  All players aged 8-10 are eligible to play in the JV game. These players are part of the Varsity parent team.   Basic and advanced football skills are taught.  The JV record and Junior JV record play no role in league playoffs or bowl placements.
  • The Varsity level is the highest SFFL level.  Players ages 10-13 may participate.  Advanced skills are taught.  Competition at this level is much higher.  Playoff and Bowl placement is determined by the win/loss record of the Varsity team.

SFFL starts practice in August.  The season runs through the month of November.  Micro teams play 1 pre-season game, 10 regular season games and 1 bowl game.  The JV/Varsity teams play 1 pre-season game, 10 regular season games, 1 playoff game and 1 bowl game.

All players are expected to attend practice and games throughout the season.  Micro teams practice twice per week through the month of August.  Practice then drops to once per week in September/October.

JV/Varsity teams practice three times per week through the month of August.  Practice drops to two times per week in September and remains two times per week for the remainder of the season.
